Where is the Cathedral + Treasury Precinct?
The Cathedral + Treasury Precinct is one of the most historically important and iconic sites in the Perth CBD bordered by St Georges Terrace, Barrack Street, Hay Street and Pier Street.

What do the proposed works include for the Precinct?
From 2012 to 2015, the Precinct will undergo a period of significant transformation which will include the following key works:

  • The 135 year old, heritage listed Treasury Buildings on the corner of St Georges Terrace and Barrack Street will be restored into an exciting mix of hotel, hospitality and retail uses;
  • A new, 33 level office building will be constructed between the Treasury Buildings and the Perth Town Hall;
  • A new City of Perth library will be constructed next to the Perth Town Hall fronting Hay Street;
  • The office building at 565 Hay Street between the new City of Perth Library and the Public Trustee building will be refurbished;
  • The Public Trustee building on the corner of Hay and Pier Street has already undergone minor structural changes and an internal upgrade;
  • The public plaza in the centre of the Precinct behind St Georges Cathedral will be upgraded;
  • The Playhouse Theatre on Pier Street will be replaced with new buildings aligned with St George’s Cathedral.

Who is developing the Precinct?
The Cathedral + Treasury Precinct redevelopment is a coordinated development carried out by the State Government of Western Australia, City of Perth, Anglican Diocese of Perth, FJM Property, Mirvac and the Public Trustee.

What is the delivery timeline?
Works will commence on site in August 2012 and are scheduled for completion in 2015. To view a more detailed project delivery timeline, click here.

At what stage is the project currently at?
Works have recently commenced on site and the first works to be carried out include the demolition of the Law Chambers Building to make way for the new City of Perth library.

What demolition works are occurring on site?

What is the investment figure for the project?
All works carried out across the Precinct have a total project value in excess of $580 million.

Who is the proposed hotel operator for the Treasury Buildings?
It has previously been reported Aman Resorts will be the operator for the new hotel within the restored Treasury Buildings but the operator has not yet been confirmed and will be announced at a later date.

Will there be any residential opportunities available?
No, there won’t be any residential opportunities available within the Precinct.

Will there be any commercial, retail or hospitality opportunities available?
